MANSFIELD - After 28 years as director of athletics at Mansfield University, Roger Maisner will leave from that position, remaining at the university as a member of the faculty.
Maisner began his career at Mansfield in 1976 as an instructor in the health and physical education department.
He was named athletic director in 1985. Maisner was promoted to assistant professor in 1984 and associate professor in 1994. He also has served as head coach for men's basketball, baseball and golf during his career.
"During his tenure as director of athletics, Roger raised millions of dollars for scholarships, oversaw the renovation and upgrade of athletic facilities, introduced women's soccer and indoor track for men and women as intercollegiate sports, and reestablished the women's cross country," President Fran Hendricks said in making the announcement. "We are grateful to Roger for his many years of leadership in athletics and wish him continued success as he steps into a new faculty role allowing him greater opportunity to work directly with students."
Kristen Decker, associate director of athletics, will serve as the interim director while a national search is conducted.
Decker came to Mansfield as assistant director of athletics in 2000 and was promoted to associate director in 2006. She also serves as senior woman administrator and compliance coordinator.
Decker earned a bachelor of science in physical education and a master of science in education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She is assistant professor in the Robert Packer Department of Health Science and Physical Activity at Mansfield.
