Velda C. Scott, 93, of Williamsport, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at The Williamsport Home.
Born Dec. 21, 1919, in Steam Valley, she was a daughter to the late Charles E. and Mary "Maude" (Love) Crist.
Velda was a 1938 graduate and valedictorian of Ralston High School. She was employed at Rakers General Store in Trout Run. Velda also worked for the Telephone Exchange and retired from AVCO where she worked as Supervisor of Accounts Payable for over 28 years. She was the former tax collector for Lewis Township.
Velda was a member of Trout Run United Methodist Church and the Trout Run Auxiliary Fire Hall. She was affectionately known as "Mee Maw" to her many grandchildren. She enjoyed the arts in many ways including playing the piano, crocheting, knitting, and painting.
Surviving are her three children, Ina Rae Kyle, of Trout Run, Lynda Phillips, of Trout Run, and Wayne P. (Linda) Dawes, of South Carolina; four step-children, Randolph (Carey) Scott, of State College, Timothy (Marie) Scott, of Williamsport, Bernard Scott, of Trout Run, Carol (Tim) Morehart, of Williamsport; 13 grandchildren and a special granddaughter, Kenna Marshall; 23 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Olivia Yeagle in 1989; a brother, Torrance Crist; a sister, Pearl Corter and a step-daughter, Martha Henry.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Trout Run United Methodist Church, 78 Creamery St., Trout Run, with her Pastor Adam Miller officiating. Burial will be in Trout Run Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport.
