Thomas Larue Howard, 51, passed away on Aug. 22, 2013, at his home in Aurora, Mo. He was born to Harold and Glenna Boyles Howard on Aug. 6, 1962, in Hillsgrove, Pa. He moved to South Williamsport in 1974 and graduated from South Williamsport Area High School in 1981. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Tom married Linda Schumann in 1995 in Cairo, Mo.
After a rewarding and honorable military career, Tom retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 2002, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Tom settled in Aurora, Mo., with his wife and son and then started a second career as a 911 Emergency Dispatcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Abram Larue Howard of Williamsport, Pa.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Joshua Howard, of the home; one daughter, Cortni Howard, of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Bart (Connie) Howard, of Williamsport, Pa.; Sam (Lori) Howard, of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Ginger (Roger) Reibsome, of Allenwood, Pa., and Dawn (Gary) Guerrisky, of South Williamsport, Pa.; three aunts, Marie Mitchell, Rachel Boyles and Bonnie Boyles; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial mass was held in Aurora, Mo., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Aug. 26. Thomas was interred at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo., with full Military Honors.
