At least five men ended up in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center's emergency room late Saturday night following a brawl at High Street and Wildwood Boulevard that may have involved anywhere from 10 to 18 people, according to city police Agent Raymond O. Kontz III.
Three of those who were treated suffered stab wounds while two others suffered "blunt-force trauma injuries" to the head, Kontz said.
Officers rushed to the intersection to investigate yet another report of "shots fired," Kontz said. There was no evidence of anyone suffering a gunshot wound, he added.
He declined to comment on reports that officers recovered two bullet casing in the parking lot at a service station at the intersection.
It appeared that the two men who suffered the "blunt force trauma injuries" may have been pistol whipped, according to police sources. All five injured were discharged, he said.
One of those who was injured was taken to the Lycoming County Prison because there was a bench warrant for his arrest, Kontz said, declining to identify the man until charges are filed.
The fight appears to have been sparked by an altercation involving two women who used to be friends, Kontz said he was told.
The investigation is ongoing, and Kontz said he is conferring with the county's District Attorney's Office to see what charges should be filed in the case.
