Thomas E. Matter, 64, of South Williamsport, passed away Sunday Oct. 6, after a long battle with cancer.
Thomas was born Jan. 17, 1949, in Sunbury, a son of the late Elwood A. and Betty (Brouse) Matter. In May of 1973, he married the former Diane M. Affeldt who survives.
He was a 1966 graduate of Shikellamy High School.

Thomas was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a torpedo man on the submarine Thomas Edison in New London, CT and as a U.S. Navy Airman hydraulics mechanic in Jacksonville, Fla. He worked 32 years as an account executive for Kaman Industrial Technologies in Williamsport.
In his younger days he enjoyed riding and racing off road motorcycles. He was a NASCAR fan and avid bass fisherman with a camp on Lake Ontario.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, Thomas is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Spencer and Tasha Matter, of Williamsport; his daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Craig Welfer, of Camp Hill; five grandchildren, Alexia and Eliana Matter, Alyssa, Kyle and Zackary Welfer; his sister, Charlene Kunkel and her companion, Alan Walter, of Sunbury; and a niece, Randi Kunkel, of Northumberland.
Friends and family may visit Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland, where the funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Robert R. VanDeusen officiating.
Interment will be private in Riverview Cemetery.
