Esther L. Tallman, 88, a resident of Muncy, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, in the Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center at Muncy Valley Hospital. Born in Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming County, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late I. Harvey and Lena (Peterman) Yetter.
She was the wife of E. Eugene Tallman with whom she celebrated a 64th wedding anniversary on April 23, 2013. Esther was a 1943 graduate of Muncy High School. She was a homemaker.
Esther was a life member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Pennsdale, where she was the church organist for 37 years and had played the piano for the children's department and had served on the worship committee. She had perfect Sunday School attendance for over 45 years. Esther was an avid Phillies fan, enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's sporting events and was an excellent pie baker. She adored her cats.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy A. and Scott Mensch, of Muncy; Shirley A. and Phillip Glasser, of Muncy; five grandchildren, Mary Beth Baker, Greg Tallman, Tyler Mensch, Darren Mensch, Laura Glasser; and one great-grandson, Denny Baker III. Esther was preceded in death by her son, Donald Y. Tallman, in 1998.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, with Reverend Arlene Beechert, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Muncy, officiating. Interment will be in the Muncy Cemetery.
