Joseph Lee Hettinger, 77, of Danville, more recently from Linden, took his final journey on Oct. 8, 2013, at home with his family and his dog, Petey, by his side.
Born Aug. 10, 1936, in Danville, Joseph was the son of the late John Roy Hettinger and the late Ruth Love-Hettinger-Stonge.
Joseph attended the Danville Area High School. He served in the U.S. Army 1953 to 1955, serving in Lebanon and Germany; in Vietnam from 1955 to 1957; and the Army National Guards from 1958 to 1963. He was employed at Thompson Ramo Wooldridge (TRW) for over 35 years and operated the family farm on Columbia Hill Road in Danville for over 48 years.
Joseph is survived by his son, John Roy Hettinger, of Linden; his grandchildren, Jason, Shawn and John-Michael Hettinger, all of Linden and Amy Savidge, of Sunbury; and three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Landen and Iasiah. He was preceded in his death by his wife, Esther Kline-Hettinger, who passed away on Feb. 28, 2011.
Joseph also had a great love of boating and trains. During his final weeks, he was able to enjoy doing what he loved by boating on the Bald Eagle Lake and riding the rails of the Tioga Central Railroad with his family.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville, with the Rev. Edmund Minnich officiating. The burial will follow at Columbia Hill Cemetery in Danville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of funeral service.
Flowers will be provided by the family and requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17801.
