Shirley R. Wettlaufer, 84, formerly of Newberry, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Williamsport Home.
Shirley quit school at an early age to help support her family. She went to work at Trimtex, Ray-O-Vac, then Sylvania, which became Phillips ECG.
After 40 plus years of working she retired to care for her ailing husband. After retirement she continued to work as an elder care giver up until her early 80's. She attended Buchanan Baptist Church, enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her son and grandchildren very much and enjoyed spending time and doting on them. She enjoyed cooking and helping others. She had a very generous and loving spirit. She instilled a great work ethic in her children and grandchildren. Her strength when facing adversity was greatly admired.
Shirley English Wettlaufer
Born Dec. 26, 1928, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of George and Bessie McBride Palmatier.
Surviving are a son, Clyde W. (Patricia) English of Williamsport; grandchildren Shannon, Brian, Beth, Amanda and Nicole English and Melissa Fischer; step-children, Douglas (Donna) Wettlaufer and Deborah (Timothy) Boush and step-grandchildren Douglas, Donovan, Samantha and Jacob Wettlaufer.
Shirley was predeceased by her husbands, Robert F. English and Robert W. Wettlaufer; a son, Robert F. English Jr.; brothers, George and Dennis Palmatier; and sisters, Lula Hyatt, Alda Vought and Eleanor Kriner.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Knight-Confer's, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Robert W. Regan officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Unit of the Williamsport Home, 1900 Ravine Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
