Going into the final minute of the second overtime, it looked like Loyalsock was going to waste an amazing outing by goalie Ryan Loeh, but Matt Hibbs didn't let that happen.
Loeh made 10 saves and Hibbs scored the game-winning goal with 41.2 seconds remaining in double overtime as the Lancers defeated Central Mountain, 2-1 Saturday night at Loyalsock.
Loyalsock's first goal came at the 1:49 mark on a 18-yard line to 18-yard line sprint by Josiah Covert. Covert went through the Central Mountain defense and made the last man miss to net the games first goal.
"The guys didn't give up," said Loyalsock coach Andrew Zimmerman. "I'd say our first half was pretty sloppy after we got that first goal and then second half we really stepped it up and played a great half."
Loeh really stepped it up as he saved five shots in the second half and made some huge saves at crucial times throughout the game. Loeh's biggest save came with 17 seconds to go in the second half as a Central Mountain player had a header on goal and Loeh laid out to keep the game tied.
Loeh has been coming up big all year for the Lancers, and this game wasn't a surprise for Zimmerman.
"It really was the game against Hughesville Monday," said Zimmerman. "The first half our guys lost our composure and he made six saves that should've been goals and since then, we had a good game against Central Columbia here and he was making great saves again tonight. I couldn't ask for him to be showing up like this at a better time."
The District 4 playoffs begin this week and Loeh is playing his best at the best time. Pairings should be available today or Monday.
Hibbs kept the pressure on the Central Mountain defense all night as he kept attacking and his goal was only a matter of time.
"If he (Hibbs) keeps working, you know I tell him that they'll come," said Zimmerman.
Hibbs wasn't the only player determined on the team as the whole Loyalsock team played hard the entire 99 minutes.
Mike Pastore was all over the field making plays on offense and defense. Mark Odorizzi, Elijah Solley, Doug Adams, Josiah Covert and Connor McLean all played great in the back. Giuseppe Constagliola was winning headers in the midfield all night and Brooks Durand played well on offense. It was a complete team effort for the Lancers.
Central Mountain played just as hard as Loyalsock but it couldn't finish enough opportunities.
The Wildcats couldn't control the ball in the first half and didn't get many chances. The second half was another story, as Central Mountain came out with much more aggression and better ball control.
After amassing just one shot on goal in the first half, Central Mountain had six shots on goal in the second. Alper Saruhan netted Central Mountain's only goal at 52:24 on a nice kick and run play.
The Wildcats also came out with much more aggression in the second half and the two overtimes. But the aggression resulted in 11 fouls after the first half and Phil Brinker received his second yellow card at 84:02 and he was then ejected. Central Mountain had to play one man down for the final 15 minutes. But Central Mountain never gave up and fought until the end.
Goalie David Kohen played a great game as he made seven saves, many of which he was laying out for.
"David played well tonight," said Central Mountain coach Jeff Brinker. "The first one they came down had a nice shot, he got a hand on it. He stood big and tall and did some nice stuff in goal."
