HOLLIDAYSBURG - The success Central Mountain had in the second half of the season matched it up with a familiar opponent to open the District 6 AAA boys' soccer playoffs.
In two previous meetings, Central Mountain fell to Hollidaysburg, which earned the top seed with a 13-5 record.
Both regular season matches were decided by a single goal, and Tuesday's match, which featured a strong defensive showing by the Wildcats, ended as Hollidaysburg capitalized off of two Tyler Miller goals to win, 2-0.
Miller gave the Golden Tigers a lead less than a minute into the second half.
The defensive efforts in the first half were quickly forgotten as Miller took advantage of a loose ball in front of the Wildcat goal. Miller tapped the ball in with less than a minute off the second half clock.
After scoring, Miller streaked down the sideline, and was mobbed by his fellow teammates at they celebrated the 1-0 lead.
Miller later iced the match when he caught a break, getting David Kohen out of the net for a wide open scoring chance.
Central Mountain (9-7-2) played a much better second half, missing chances to tie the game by inches.
"I was very proud of the guys, it was 50/50 all night long," Central Mountain coach Jeff Brinker said. "We had so many good chances. The ball didn't fall the way we wanted it to."
Central Mountain's best scoring chance came when Ry Gallagher keyed an offensive push, stringing together a set of passes to get into the offensive third. Gallagher eventually found Thomas Hullet for an open look at the goal. Hullet took the shot, but gave it a little too much power as it sailed over the goal.
Alper Saruhan nearly notched his first postseason tally, beating the Golden Tiger defense to force a diving save by Blake Walter.
