The first Book Review Luncheon for 2013-14 recently was scheduled by the Board of Directors of the Friends of the JVBrown Library. The luncheons, which are held monthly through the fall, winter, and spring, take place at the library on the first Friday of each month, except January.
The Nov. 1 review is being held in connection with the library's "Big Read" promotion, which features The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Dr. Debra Morris of Pennsylvania College of Technology will speak on the topic "The Women in The Great Gatsby."
Morris received her a bachelor's degree in English from Smith College, Northampton, Mass., and earned her master's and doctorate's degrees from Penn State University. She studied Margaret Fuller for her master's thesis, and The Role of Mothering in Wilkie Collins' novels for her doctoral dissertation.
The Book Review Luncheons are open to the public and free of charge, unless you choose to order the light lunch that is available. There is a fee for the luncheons and can be reserved by calling the library information desk at 570-326-0536 no later than 3 p.m. the Wednesday before the luncheon (Oct. 30, Dec. 4.) Your own bag lunch or take-outs from local restaurants also are welcome.
The luncheons start at noon with the program beginning at 12:30 p.m. Those interested may attend the talk without lunch. The events are held in the Lowry Theatre on the third floor of the Welch Family Wing of the James V. Brown Library.
