HUGHESVILLE - In an effort to gain new perspective on what's happening in their district, members of the East Lycoming School Board invited members of Hughesville High School's Student Council to give a report during the board's meeting Tuesday evening.
Student Council members will provide a report at least once a month, during one of the board's two monthly meetings, according to the council's adviser, Jill Warg.
Josh Fry, Student Council president, said council had made increasing club membership one of its primary goals for this school year.
In light of the goal, the council hosted a club fair, geared toward introducing students to the variety of clubs available at the high school.
"We think it's very important to get students involved in a wide variety of activities, including other clubs," Fry said.
The school board approved several field trips during its meeting:
The first, held Tuesday and approved retroactively, sent students to Styers Farm in Muncy and cost the district $120.
On Nov. 19, eighth-grade math students will attend a competition at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, which will cost the district about $105.
On Nov. 26, senior high band members will travel to the Montoursville Area School District for a competition. The event will cost the district about $80.
The board also hired:
Keith Shaner as an assistant girls soccer coach at a stipend of $1,882.50 per year.
Craig Weaver as the assistant girls basketball coach and Robert Perry as the assistant boys basketball coach. Each will receive a stipend of $4,585 per year.
