However you view who is at fault for the recent government shutdown, we should be looking to see if less is what we want in government. Do you like the fact less government means the closing of national parks and sites? Do you like the fact programs to help bring nutrition into homes are no longer available? How do you like that there is no active agency to fight salmonella outbreaks in food manufacturing sites? Did you like that benefits to veterans were halted? Did you find that keeping children from Head Start was good for American families? While a few people with substantial wealth stepped in and filled the void because of the government shutdown, do you want national programs for all Americans dependent on the pet projects of the few with no national accountability?
A Republican representative from Tennessee said that the people of this great nation will now be able to see how little of government they need in their lives with the shutdown. So how do you like the 'less' in government exemplified by the shutdown of government? The call for less government only has given us a government that is woefully inadequate in its duties. There will be consequences for having a government shutdown and hopefully it will fall on those who made it happen. The reality is that the consequences will only be felt and shared by the American people.
