Wellsboro's Mike Pietropola found Brandon Owlett for a 25-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to break a tie and the Green Hornets remained undefeated with a 21-14 victory over the Towanda on Friday night.
The win clinched a District 4 Class A playoff berth for the Green Hornets (9-0) and it was their first win over Towanda since 1999.
Pietropola finished with two touchdown passes and now has 35 this season.
The Green Hornets, who took a 14-0 first-quarter lead on a Wyatt Covert 29-yard run and a Pietropola 19-yard pass to Kieron Smethers, also clinched at least a share of the NTL Big School championship.
Troy 59, Hughesville 10
Troy celebrated senior night with a 59-10 shellacking of the visiting Hughesville Spartans. It was a total team effort, as 15 different players carried the ball for a combined 49 rushes for 540 yards and eight rushing touchdowns on the night.
The Spartans came in with only one win over the last two seasons, and may have caught the Trojans taking them too lightly, as they scored the first 10 points of the ball game. Their opening drive took only seven plays and covered 53 yards as Clint Snyder ran in from 5-yards out to give them the early lead, 7-0.
Troy fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Hughesville recovered in great field position on the 40 yard line. A 34-yard completion brought them to the Troy six yard line, where the defense stiffened and forced a 22 yard field goal by Melvin Derhammer.
Wyalusing 55, Warrior Run 13
The Wyalusing Rams got off to a fast start on their way to overwhelming the visiting Warrior Run Defenders in a lopsided 55-13 victory.
Wyalusing running back Luke Jennings ran to a career night in the win, scoring four touchdowns on the ground and one defensive touchdown while running the ball 29 times for 257 yards.
