Richard A. Johnson Sr. passed Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 20, 1966, in Williamsport, the son of Sara Johnson-Jenkins and the late William B Johnson Sr.
He was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church and a graduate of the Williamsport High School, where he lettered all four years in football. Also, he played at the Maynard Little League, flag football and softball. He coached Pop Warner and loved the Eagles, Penn State and Yankees. No one could talk or move while he was watching his games.
He was employed by Master Contractors for 17 years but started his working at the age of 13.
Surviving are his wife, Johanna, who was his world; six sons, Richard A. Jr., Ryan A., Jayson R., Richonne A., Desmond W., Donte R., all of Williamsport; one daughter, Emily, of New Jersey; five grandchildren Jaeshaun, Taeshaun, Aviana, Richai, and Jayson Jr.; six sisters, Lynne Miller, of Williamsport, Lynette Miller, Lesli Miller, Jackie Miller and Tammi and Melanie Johnson, all of Harrisburg; one brother, William B. Johnson Jr., also of Harrisburg; two god-sisters, Carol Wright and Gerylann Gilyard; one god-brother, Michael Wright, all of this city; and godmother, Louise Wright, whom he loved dearly. He had a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and more friends than we can count.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernard and Viola Johnson, and Geraldine Jenkins-Cales; his godfather, Richard Wright; and nephew, DelAnthony Williams.
Services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the Christ Community Church Worship Center, 436 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richie's name can be made to Bethel A.M.E. Church, 601 Hepburn St., Williamsport.
Arrangements are being handled by the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
