To bring awareness to homelessness, a group of students from Pennsylvania College of Technology plan to sleep outside the county courthouse in a cardboard "box city" Friday night.
Students in the course Service Learning in Sociology will begin building their cardboard city at 5 p.m. in front of the courthouse, 48 W. Third St. The event is planned to symbolize the challenges of homelessness.
The group is inviting members of the public to join them during the event. Community members may make donations of canned goods, toiletries and gently used clothing during the event, which will be given to Family Promise of Lycoming County Inc. The public also is welcome to decorate a box to add to the cardboard "city."
The event also will feature live music and food.
