On a night when many current school board members reclaimed their posts Wednesday, a group of newcomers won seats on the Williamsport Area School Board.
According to the county Voter Services offices' unofficial results, Spencer Sweeting, Nicholas Grimes, Robin Knauth and Chester Peterman will join current board member Jane L. Penman to fill the five open seats on the city school board.
All five received more than 2,500 votes.
As the vote counts came in, Penman said she was looking forward to continuing her service to the district and working with four new board members.
The newest board members said they were excited for their chance to serve the community.
"I'm very happy that the people trust me and I hope I serve them well. I'm excited," Grimes said.
Sweeting and Knauth added that they hope to make an impact on the district.
"I'll look forward to four years of serious involvement and some tough decisions. But I hope we'll have a good group to work with and do the best job we can do for the kids," Knauth said.
"I really hope that we get a chance to make our schools better and be the best we can be," Sweeting said.
Peterman was unable to be reached for comment.
The other county school board race saw Scott W. Konkle and William S. Ruffing beat out Dora Pioli for the two seats in Region 3 of the Montoursville Area School Board.
Current Montoursville board member George E. Hagemeyer took the one open seat in Region 1. There was no candidate for Region 2's one open seat, but it did receive more than 180 write-in votes. James Bergen, who currently sits on the board, also took a two-year term in Montoursville's Region 3.
Jersey Shore Area School Board will have two new members in December as Kelly Wasson and David R. Hines took the two open seats in Region 3, while current board member Craig Allen took the one seat in Region 1.
Elsewhere, South Williamsport saw current members John J. Engel and Gregg T. Balawajder retain their seats in Region 1. One seat each in Regions 2 and 3 did not have a candidate on the ballot. Region 2 received 51 write-in votes and Region 3 had 14 write-in votes.
Of the four candidates elected for the East Lycoming School Board, three were incumbents as Karen L. Berger joins current board members Amy Rogers, Randy Eddinger and Diane Santo.
Muncy School Board also had seats open on the ballot. Lisa Sleboda was the only candidate on the Muncy Borough ballot with two open seats. There were 172 write-in votes in that region. Kimberly Spring-Winters also was the lone candidate for Muncy Township, which had two open seats. That region also had 18 write-in votes.
Current board members Mary C. Bennardi and Scott M. Johnson filled open seats in Muncy Creek, with Johnson's being a two-year term.
There were no surprises in either Loyalsock Township or Montgomery as all current board members up for re-election won their seats back Wednesday.
Maureen Carey, William P. Carlucci, John B. Raymond and Sheila J. Yates reclaimed their seats on Loyalsock Township's School Board. Montgomery's five open seats all were taken by current board members - Christopher J. Johnson and Augustine Spizzirri in Region 1; Todd S. Woodling in Region 2; and Jody Lee Budman in Region 3.
