There are special days on the calendar that we all pay attention to Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th.
Today is a day Veterans Day that we need to pay more attention to.
In many quarters of this country, veterans are the forgotten heroes. Their unemployment rate is higher than the rest of the country, the acknowledgement of their sacrifices seems muted much of the time.
And when the country goes through a politicized budget shutdown, they have to watch barricades being placed at memorials meant to honor and remember them.
This should never be the case.
These men and women have protected our country and the cause of freedom worldwide.
They go into places few outsiders can even envision.
They put themselves in harm's way almost routinely, which is a reality almost no one can comprehend.
They do this based on a belief system that is sorely lacking in this country that the cause is correct and more important than anything else.
They stand in contrast to an alarming thread of disrespect that we see far to often in our country today, a distinct lack of understanding for this country's history, heritage and purpose.
Honor our vets today.
If you see them, thank them.
you don't see them, think of them and the sacrifices they have made to protect and defend us and our freedoms and preserve the quality of our lives.
It has never been more important than now to remember them.
