Lycoming College Career Services will hold a sale for Ten Thousand Villages, a group that promotes fair trade by helping disadvantaged artisans sell their goods.
The sale will be open to the campus community from now until Nov. 22 and to the public Friday and Nov. 22 from noon until 4 p.m. on the third floor of the Wertz Student Center.
The event is held in conjunction with International Education Month, which is celebrated by colleges and universities each year in November.
Career Services at the college will collaborate with the Multicultural Awareness Group to promote and encourage international education by acknowledging the types of cross-cultural learning experiences students have had abroad and in America throughout the month.
Two special events will be held as a part of the educational activities: The International Dance Night from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Burchfield Lounge, Wertz Student Center, and the International Expo from 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 19 in Pennington Lounge, Academic Center. The dance night will include Latin American salsa and belly dancing lessons and the expo is a festival of cultural exhibits, entertainment and refreshments.
Ten Thousand Villages is one of the world's largest fair trade organizations and a founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization.
The company helps disadvantaged artisans by establishing a sustainable market for handmade products in North America and building long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisan partners lack opportunities for stable income.
