Sophia A. Engler, 92, of Williamsport, surrounded by her loving family, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, in Sycamore Manor Health Center.
She was born in Hamilton, Tioga County, on Sept. 26, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Anna Morz Kicinski.
She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Sophia worked for 30 years at G.T.E. Sylvania in Montoursville. She was a member of the Susquehanna Auxillary, Divine Providence Hospital Auxillary, Catholic Daughters of America and she volunteered at Sycamore Manor, St. Joseph the Worker Church and St. Boniface Church.
She was an avid bowler and was an active bowler up to the day she became ill. She was inducted into the Bowling Association Hall of Fame. A loving wife, sister, step-mother, step-grandmother, Sophia gave to numerous charities during her lifetime. She will be remembered for the twinkle in her eye and for her peanut butter fudge.
Surviving are her sister, Ann Klemick, of Williamsport; step-children, Christine West (Don), of Williamsport, Ellen Burker (Lee), of the Villages, Fla., Douglas Engler (Katherine), of Redmond, Ore.; step-grandchildren, Albert Lee Burker IV, Brandice Burker Luke, Eric West, Elizabeth Engler, Christopher Engler, Kyle Yerk, Seth Yerk and Taryn Yerk; and five step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her loving nieces and nephews, Sandy and Bill Scott, Robert Kicinski, Mike and Kathy Kicinski, Lisa and John Gonsalves; great-nieces and nephews, Christopher and April Klemick, Joel and Mandy Klemick, Brent Klemick, John Gonsalves, Joaquin Gonsalves; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Engler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson J. Engler. Sophia and Emerson took each others hand in marriage on April 22, 1978. They celebrated 12 and a half years of marriage until the death of Emerson on Nov. 19, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rose Sharkey and brothers, Francis Kicinski and Bernard Kicinski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. Rev John Manno will officiate. Friends may call at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
