Loyalsock Township will begin its 2014 budget process, according to Township Manager Bill Burdett. A meeting to review the proposal will be held at noon Nov. 21 at the Township Building, 2501 E. Third St.
"We'll review the budget line-item by line-item and open the floor to questions from anybody," Burdett said.
On the topic of finances, the township has had some success collecting delinquent taxes, according to township Tax Collector Dottie White.
"Sometimes it takes a long time but if you're persistent, it can pay off," White said, adding that the township was able to collect $15,000 from one delinquent customer.
Zoning Officer Garth Womer said the township issued 47 building permits for the month of October, including a permit to Loyalsock Township School District to build two modular classrooms on 2800 Four Mile Drive.
Winter plans also were discussed at Tuesday's meeting. In addition to winterizing parks, the maintenance crew is busy getting ready for holiday events, according to Recreation Director Shannon Lukowsky. Sally Short's Holiday in the Park event is scheduled 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7, following the holiday parade, according to Lukowsky.
"There will be a bonfire, food and horse-drawn wagon rides," Lukowsky said.
The school choir will perform and Santa Claus, Rudolf and Frosty also will be there, according to Lukowsky.
The township will hold another Light Up the Holidays House Decorating Contest this year, Lukowsky said. The deadline to register houses is Dec. 13.
"You can register your own home or other homes. If you see a home that you think should be on the list, call the township with the address," Lukowsky said.
The next supervisors meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Township Building.
