A Billtown cab driver was assaulted inside his cab by an intoxicated man whom the driver picked up for a ride in the 200 block of Valley Street in DuBoistown on June 8, according to borough police.
Brian James Wagner, of 936 Elizabeth St. in the city, has been charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and harassment for allegedly punching Richard J. Wacker in the head and face in the 2600 block of Euclid Avenue about 11:15 p.m., police said.
After being picked up on Valley Street, Wagner "became mouth and belligerent toward Wacker. It got to the point that Wacker felt unsafe so he ordered Wagner, along with three other passengers that were picked up with Wagner, out of the cab," an officer said in an affidavit.
However, within minutes, the cab driver changed his mind and picked up the foursome a second time, police said. But the situation quickly deteriorated as Wagner, 21, grabbed the driver around the head while the cab still was in motion on Euclid Avenue, police said. Wagner punched the driver several times before fleeing on foot, police said. Wagner was nabbed minutes later on Summer Street. He has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge James H. Sortman.
