Louis Fagnano, 76, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Rose View Manor with family at his side.
He was born Feb. 11, 1937, in Williamsport, the eldest son of Balante and Sarah (Monastro) Fagnano.
Louis was married for 54 years to the former Sandra Higgins, of Montoursville.
Louis attended Williamsport Area High School and earned a welding certificate from the Williamsport Technical Institute. He worked for the American Car and Foundry (ACF) in Milton. Louis then found employment in New Columbia working for Ceco as a welder. He was hired the first year the plant opened. Even though the plant changed ownership over the years (New Columbia Joist; Commercial Metal Corporation), Louis remained an employee at the same plant for 42 years. He retired in 2010, the day the plant closed. He was a member of the Local 502 Iron Workers. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Montoursville.
Louis enjoyed educating himself about all types of history, and he especially enjoyed learning about his Italian heritage and culture. This included learning and becoming fluent in the Italian language. His great memory made it easy to dispense that knowledge of history, heritage, culture and language to his children, grandchildren and extended family. He enjoyed hiking, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. His family, friends and coworkers were also fortunate to enjoy his truly unique sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Balante Fagnano.
Surviving besides his wife, Sandra, are his mother, Sarah, of Williamsport; his brother, Joseph (Jean), of Granite Falls, Minn.; his five children, Barry (Bernadette) of Raleigh, N.C., Lisa Rovenolt, of South Williamsport, Brian (Jacqueline), of Loyalsock, Kevin, of Montoursville and Maria (Mark Updegraff), of Rochester, N.Y. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Emma, Megan Rovenolt, Brandon, Nathan, Zachary, Thaisse and Luke Updegraff.
At the request of Louis, there will be no visitation or service.
