While the ultimate finish line remains an uphill climb, Lycoming County United Way campaign officials remain optimistic as a positive trend continues with updated campaign results.
"It is a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison as our yearly campaign report dates have some fluctuation, but the $446,231 we have raised thus far puts the campaign about $77,000 ahead of where we were last year at a comparable time," said William J. Martin, LCUW campaign chairman. "As has been the case in recent weeks, residential campaigns in Williamsport, South Williamsport, Jersey Shore and Montoursville continue their positive trends."
With more than 60 percent of the annual campaign proceeds resulting from workplace campaigns, those returns received, although relatively few, reflect contribution increases.
"Our larger employee campaigns are still underway, but from those businesses we have heard from, response has been good," said Scott N. Lowery, LCUW executive director. "Those reporting increases over last year include Fischer Insurance, up 100 percent; West Branch Drug and Alcohol, 60 percent; Williamsport Crosscutters, 53 percent; Klein and Rizzo 8, percent; Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, 6 percent; Mid State Beverage, 4 percent, and Springs Window Fashions, 3 percent."
Last year, the campaign received some significant gifts from area service clubs, Lowery said. "This week, we received a very nice gift from the DuBoistown VFW, which is most appreciated," he added.
"Our $1.73 million need is still a long way off, but with the community's continued support, it is achievable," he said.
