In order to provide support services for seniors that will keep them living independently in their own homes, which is the most economical place to age, STEP Office of Aging is expanding enrollment into programs in Lycoming and Clinton counties. STEP Office of Aging understands that now more than ever seniors, many of whom are on fixed incomes, need help to continue to live on their own.
Services that are being expanded and accepting applications are:
Home delivered meals program - Popularly known as Meals on Wheels, this program delivers a complete hot, nutritious mid-day meal to those ages 60 and over who are homebound and cannot cook for themselves. Regular or special diet meals are distributed by volunteers Monday through Friday from various senior centers.

Adaptive devices services - Provides individuals with adaptive devices to allow them to continue to live independently in their homes.
Home support services - Provides individuals with light housekeeping, cleaning, laundry, shopping and instruction in home management and basic cooking skills.
Care management services - Coordinates the home services an individual receives through providing access to a range of available services that ensure all needs are met.
Specific elements including individual needs assessment, care plan development and implementation, coordination of service delivery and ongoing reassessment.
Protective service intake and investigation - Provided to individuals as an intervention in a crisis situation or to avoid an imminent crisis. The Older Adults Protective Services Act empowers the STEP Office of Aging to investigate reports of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, abandonment or other threats.
Plans to reduce, correct, and-or eliminate the problem are developed with the individual.
Family caregiver support program - Responds to the needs of families and friends caring for their loved ones at home.
The purpose is to reinforce the care being provided to the individual and provide the caregivers with support. Depending on the annual household income, funding for expenses related to the care of their friend or relative may be available.
With the additional promotion of these services, STEP Office of Aging intends to reach seniors who have not yet worked with the agency or those whose services have lapsed. STEP is committed to providing services to allow seniors to continue to live independently in their homes.
Family members who have an interest in these programs also are encouraged to find out more about the services for their loved ones.
