On November 20, Laura Mae Borges finished her life on earth and began anew in a place without pain. Laura, known as Mae to friends, and Sweet Pea to her husband, John, was a devoted daughter, wife and mother and loved to spend time with her eleven grandchildren: Dustin, Ashley, Kayla, Katlyn, Bailey, Caroline, Tanner, Kyler, Gillian, Lindsay and Mitchell.
Mae was born on March 29, 1935 to Marie and Stephen Knorr (deceased) in Nescopeck, PA. An only child, she spent time with various cousins, aunts and uncles as she grew into a young lady. Mae married John on December 24, 1959 in Bethlehem, PA (an appropriate location for a Christmas Eve wedding!) and lived in different locales in Pennsylvania and Virginia, most recently in Tivoli, PA. Mae brought three sons into the world- Mark (Loretta), Daniel (Julie) and David (Marcy).
She started each day early, usually around 4:30AM, by preparing breakfast for John and continuing the remainder of the day dutifully attending to her family, household chores and social engagements. Over the course of her life, Mae worked numerous jobs, from janitorial to child transportation (she loved those kids!), and performed each with skill and a sense of fulfillment.
A believer that Jesus is the son of God, Mae was a faithful part of Faith Wesleyan Church in Williamsport, PA and served in various ministries there. She loved to laugh and had a terrific sense of humor. She was an avid reader of novels and filled her spare time with study of the Bible, intently viewing Fox News, and enjoying the challenge of 250+ piece puzzles. She frequently enjoyed a cup of coffee and a donut from Dunkin Donuts; spending time with several senior organizations; and dining at the Grace Buffet in Montoursville.
John and the rest of the family would like all who knew Mae to gather at the Faith Wesleyan Church, 1033 Tucker St., Williamsport, at 7:30 pm, Wednesday to celebrate her going home, with Pastor Tim Hartzell. We can share all those great stories of her from 6 pm till the time of her service. Memorial contributions may be made to Love Inc., of Greater Hershey, 64 W. Chocolate Ave., Hershey, PA 17033 of www.loveincofgreaterhershey.org.
