Sister Celia Dincher, S.C.C., 81, died at Holy Family Convent, Danville, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2013.
Bernardine Dincher, daughter of Albert and Cecilia (Hiller) Dincher, was born in Williamsport on Feb. 28, 1932. Family members in addition to Sister Celia included four brothers and three sisters. She attended St. Boniface School and St. Mary High School, conducted by the Sisters of Christian Charity.
She entered the religious community on Sept. 2, 1951. She received the religious habit of the community on Aug. 21, 1952. First Vows were pronounced on Aug. 21, 1954, followed by Final Profession on Aug. 20, 1960.
Her entire religious life was dedicated to teaching in the elementary schools of the community in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. From August 2000 until August 2007, she was engaged in teaching at Immaculate Conception School in Bastress and St. John Neuman Regional School, Bastress campus. In addition, she had the added responsibility of superior and principal on several occasions. Sister Celia came to Holy Family in August 2009.
Surviving family members include a brother, Eugene; and a sister, Cecilia, from Williamsport; a cousin, Sister Margaret Dincher, S.C.C.; and nieces and nephews. Another sister, Sister Ann Elizabeth Dincher, S.C.C., preceded her in death in January 2012.
A wake service and recitation of the rosary will take place on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the convent chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Michael Laicha on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Hubert Cemetery under the direction of Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville.
