It's exciting again to come to Benji's Restaurant and Pub.
The business in Williamsport's East End is under new management and has rolled out a new menu and other offerings.
"It's more of a restaurant (now) than it used to be," said Ryan Troutman, the new manager.
And, it's still a place where a patron can enjoy a drink. There's the large banquet room at the front of the business for private parties and other gatherings. Billiards players can choose from among four pool tables.
"There's a lot of options here," Troutman said.
Patrons can sit at the bar and eat or have a beer. There's plenty of seating elsewhere for families and small gatherings of friends. With its big screen television sets, Benji's has the vague feel of a sports bar, but it's more than that, according to Troutman. The restaurant has been featuring disc jockeys playing music on weekends. Other entertainment including bands is being planned.
But Troutman feels Benji's is becoming more of a place to dine out now.
"We definitely changed the menu," he said.
He said customers have been excited about Benji's special weekly chicken wing nights.
"Wings are great. I have heard a lot of compliments about our wings," he said. Wednesday nights are doing real well with the wings."
There's also the black angus cheeseburger that many customers are raving about. The restaurant, owned by Casey Stopper, has in place a new staff that is well trained.
"We haven't done a whole lot of advertising but every week we seem to get more people in here," Troutman said. "Weekends are doing well."
Troutman noted Benji's also runs a trolley for patrons who need a ride from the restaurant. In upcoming months, some minor renovations might be done with the business.
Troutman likes the location just off Washington Boulevard.
"Being close to the (Lycoming) college is nice," he said.
Patrons vary from college kids to families.
"Our wings and family atmosphere are key," he said.
