I just read that the Legislature is considering passing a bill that would permit more charter schools in the state including ones opened by colleges and universities. The taxpayers would have to fund these almost private schools.
I really don't believe local school districts should be made to pay for private schools when the same services are offered by public schools.
In essence, any group can start a school without local controls or accountability and the public would be required to support them. In my opinion this will create hardships for the local district financially. It is an attempt to dismantle the public school system completely.
That seems to be the aim of Governor Corbett. I cannot see the charter schools accepting all students, as do public schools.
