The Winter 2013 issue of "Brilliant Corners: A Journal of Jazz & Literature" is now available. The journal, which features jazz-related poetry, fiction and non-fiction, is edited by Sascha Feinstein, Ph.D., professor of English and creative writing at Lycoming College.
The new edition boasts the work of two former poets laureate, Billy Collins and David Clewell. Collins was the poet laureate of the United States from 2001-03 and Clewell was the poet laureate of Missouri from 2010-12. Also included is an interview with Robert Leonard Reid, who contributed the essay "Echoes of Creation." Reid is author of three collections of essays: "Mountains of the Great Blue Dream," "America, New Mexico" and "Arctic Circle."
The cover for the winter issue is titled "Before the Concert" and was made by Bill Evaul, an internationally recognized artist who specializes in white-line color woodcuts and whose work is in the collection of the Library of Congress.
The Lycoming College president’s house recently doubled as an art class as professors Michael Darough and Seth Goodman brought their art students to see the “Ticket to Ride” painting series by renowned American painter and muralist Michael Bell ’94. President Kent and Sharon Trachte are proud to display several of Bell’s 60-by-60-inch mixed-media oil paintings on canvas in their home.
"Brilliant Corners" is published biannually at Lycoming College. It is funded in part by the college, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts and private endowments. More information can be found at www.lycoming.edu/BrilliantCorners.
