Recently, "Happy Holidays" took on a new meaning in my life. I have and still do prefer to say "Merry Christmas"! However I recently had an experience and have come to the conclusion that "Happy Holidays" does have a place in the expression of the season.
I was shopping at Wegman's on a rainy day, it was pouring. Upon finishing my shopping, I hurried to my vehicle to get in so not to get drenched. Within seconds a young lady was knocking at my window. I rolled down the window and acknowledged her presence. She then told me she was about to put something under my windshield blades but saw me get in the car and wanted to hand it to me. What she gave me truly changed my mindset about the words "Happy Holidays" . She handed me a 4" by 3" fold out cardboard with the words "Happy Holidays" written on the outside and inside was a Buffalo Bills window sticker. She told me that she got the sticker out of a machine hoping to get a Cincinnati Bengals logo sticker. She was not lucky enough to get the one she wanted, she got the Buffalo Bill's one instead.
I acknowledged her kindness and said "Thank You". As I backed out of the parking space I passed her again and she smiled because she knew how much I appreciated her little act of kindness.
As the days have passed , I have thought about how such a little gesture of kindness has made a profound impact on my on my life. I have a better understanding how the words of "Happy Holiday's" should be received by me. It was apparent by our interaction, that she really felt the joy in giving this small gift to me as I did in receiving it. I would like to say "Merry Christmas" to this unknown Cincinnati Bengals fan and express my sincere appreciation for the small gesture of kindness you have offered to me.
