Two people face charges of shoplifting and endangering the welfare of a child following an incident at Kmart, 1915 E. Third St., about 2:45 p.m. Aug. 19, according to state police.
As Julian Michael Smith and Shelby Lynn Sabatino allegedly fled the store with $192 worth of stolen merchandise, Smith abandoned his 4-year-old son in the parking lot in order to avoid being apprehended, police said.
At the same time, Sabatino ran from the store with her 1-year-old daughter in a stroller, police said. Smith, 21, and Sabatino, 22, both of 825 W. Third St., were apprehended within minutes at a nearby business, police said.
The two recently were arraigned before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman and released on $1,500 bail each.
