We receive this Christmas morning on so many different levels.
For millions of children, last night Santa Claus came down a chimney and this morning there were gifts. When you are 4 years old, it doesn't get much better than that.
The beauty of this day and this season is that its meaning evolves as we evolve.
If you are 40 rather than 4, the giving has become more of a pleasure than receiving. The fellowship of friends and family has become a lynch pin of this day and this season.
If you are 60 or 80 or beyond, those lynch pins have become more and more important.
And overreaching all of that is a feeling in your heart and soul for the spiritual underpinnings of this season. Those spiritual underpinnings need not be limited to a particular faith. The goodness in our hearts is boundless and hardly exclusive to certain faiths.
And hopefully, that goodness does not have warranty that expires a week from now. We live in a world that seems merely chaotic on the best days and torn with human conflict and disagreement on many others.
Today we all need to reflect on how we are going to change that.
No matter your faith, no matter your background or economic situation, we all need to drink in the goodness and peace of today and hold it in our hearts for the rest of the year.
