The recently passed Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act is just another example of a government out of control. Similar to the huge Affordable Care Act mess (popularly known as "Obama Care), it was passed without anyone that voted for it really understanding what it was all about. When asked to explain his vote, Rep. Tom Marino stated that it was included in a big transportation bill and he did not know the full ramifications of the bill.
My wife and I recently searched the Internet and found the full bill; no wonder they did not or could not fully understand everything that was in it. The section pertaining to the flood insurance provisions are not even addressed until page 512 of the bill. Preceding that is the transportation bill and some information pertaining to pensions. Congress has staff to assist them. So this monstrosity of a legislative act could have certainly been broken up by staff members, each taking a section. In this way the bill could be fully understood by the congress men and women, thereby avoiding the hardships, heartbreak and possible losses of hearth and home that the federal government is currently causing hardworking middle and lower income bosses.
Something else that we recently discovered on the FEMA website is a handy tool where a person can type in their home address, click enter and it supposedly allows a homeowner to view their flood risk. A property is rated high risk, moderate to low risk and I would think non-existent or no risk. Every property we put in was listed as high risk or moderate to low risk. At no time was there a property listed lower than moderate to low risk. If one is familiar with Muncy, the United Methodist church is at the top of S. Market St., almost as high up as you can go in elevation in the town. We put the address in and it came up listed as moderate to low risk. An attempt to get everyone to purchase FEMA flood policies? You decide.
We are not big "government conspiracy theorist" type people. However we are starting to smell something bad with the way this piece of sham legislation was handled. It was passed without being read or understood; and when the realization hits those who voted for it of the destruction that was going to come out of this criminal law, no one that it is going to affect is notified. No warnings, no emails, no phone calls, no notifications. People are only finding out by word of mouth. Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck, like a good horror flick. We would say the smell that we refer to is the smell of flood water; flood water does not smell so noxious.
