James C. Mechtly, 78, of Cogan Station, went to meet his Savior on Wednesday Jan. 1, 2014, at The Williamsport Home surrounded by his family.
Born June 18, 1935, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Archie and Iva Miller Mechtly.
James was a 1953 graduate of Williamsport High School and served in the Army National Guard. Early in life, James worked in the home construction industry. He also worked for the family business, Mechtly's Lime Works, for 48 years.
He was a member of Faith Alliance Church where he was a lifetime active member and served as the Sunday school treasurer for 26 years. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley H. (Heim); children, Jamie Mechtly, of Williamsport, Shelly (Bernie) Folmar, of Morrisdale, Susan (Daniel) Mann, of Willow Spring, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Ben, Bethany and Brian Folmar, and Monica and William Mann.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Reverend Leland, Raemore, Joel, and his sister, Hazel Hunter.
A visitation will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Faith Alliance Church, 2405 Bottle Run Road, Williamsport, followed by a Celebration of Life service with Pastor John Otto officiating. A private interment will be in Balls Mills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in James' name to Faith Alliance Church, 2405 Bottle Run Road, or The Williamsport Home, 1900 Ravine Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
