John H. Zay, devoted and loving husband, father and "Pop Pop," 89, of Williamsport, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Roseview Center Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born May 16, 1924, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son to the late Chester and Celia (Czyzyk) Zazycki. He was preceded in death by his brother, Chet and his sister, Kathryn. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty M. White (Bialek); two children, John K. Zay (wife, Kathy) and Nancy Zay; three grandchildren, John P. Zay (wife, Stevie), Amy Bower (husband, Josh) and Jeffrey Zay; and three great-grandchildren, Leigha, Elsie and Allie.
John graduated from Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre in 1942 and the former Williamsport Technical Institute, now Penn College in 1951. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 and received a bronze star victory medal upon his honorable discharge. He was vice president and general manger at Allied Building Products, a subsidiary for Lundy Lumber, where he worked for 30 years. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus council 366 for 45 years and a 4th degree member of the Father Reichsteiner Assembly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., at 10 a.m. on Friday with Reverend Brian Van Fossen officiating. Visitation for friends will be held at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., on Friday morning between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport with military honors immediately following the Mass.
Memorial donations should be made to either: the Disabled Veteran's Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
