Emerson W. Courter, 73, of Linden, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital.
Born March 30, 1940, in Williamsport, he was a son to the late George and Mary (Baker) Courter. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elsie I. Berry on June 4, 1996, and his brother, Richard Courter.
Emerson was a retired security officer at the Public Assistance office in Williamsport. Earlier in his life he worked as a mechanic and a truck driver. Emerson loved the outdoors, traveling, camping, but his greatest love was spending time with his family. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are two sons, Michiel W. Courter, of Elizabeth City, N.C. and James W. (Tina) Courter, of Jersey Shore; two daughters, Crystal L. (Gary) Martin, of Linden and Susan D. Murgia, of Linden; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Melva Ann Schon, of Cogan Station and DorlaDean Walker, of Annville.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Richard Jones officiating. Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Welker Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
