Helen B. Oechler, 85, of Montoursville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the Williamsport Home, where she spent her final days surrounded by her family, friends and the caring staff at the home.
She was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Williamsport, a daughter of George C. and Isabella Sara Kilmer Meck.
Helen graduated from Williamsport High School in 1946 and then went on to the Williamsport School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1949. She retired as a registered nurse from Divine Providence Hospital. Helen was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Williamsport Hospital Auxiliary and the Beta Sigma Pi Sorority Chapter Alpha Iota Master. She enjoyed camping, arts and crafts and outdoor activities.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Philip R. Oechler; a brother, George "Gene" Meck; and a daughter-in-law, Pat Nau Oechler.
Helen is survived by two sons, Gary E. and Philip D. "Flip," both of Montoursville; a daughter, Barbara E. (Daniel) Howard, of Montoursville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 369 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. David B. Letscher officiating. Interment will follow in the Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Monday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
