The Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) will continue its commitment to providing fun community activities.
Recently, BVRA announced that the outdoor ice rink at the Saint Mary Street Park is open and will continue to be open, weather permitting.
The Lewisburg Jaycees originally built the 150-by-200-foot outdoor rink in 1970. Since the early 1980s, the rink had been closed down.
In 2001, the LARA Ice Rink Committee was formed and began renovating the facility. Volunteers, community service workers and others continue to work on the rink each year by painting, cleaning and renovating the building, fireplace and bathrooms. New to the rink in 2014 is a large sign displayed on Saint Mary Street.
"With our new sign and advertising efforts, we hope to inform more people about the existence of the rink, and get more people off the couch and outside on these cold winter days," said Desiree Ramirez, ice rink manager.
Weather permitting, the rink will be open for the season to the public through March 1.
Weekday hours are 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Mondays are open for ice hockey from 5 to 7 p.m. Skate rentals and concessions are available
To determine if the rink will be open, residents may call the ice rink building at 570-524-6776 and listen to the daily recorded message.
With or without ice, the warming house and rink is also available for rentals.
Call the BVRA office 570-524-4774 for more information and to make a reservation.
