For the second year in a row, the First Community Foundation Partnership will help raise funds for nonprofits in Lycoming and surrounding counties.
Raise the Region 2014 aims to raise money for nonprofit organizations that serve residents in Lycoming, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties.
The event will launch at 6 p.m. March 12 and close at 11:59 p.m. March 13.
Like last year, the fundraising encourages people to visit www.raisetheregion.org and donate to the organization of their choice any time during the event. Unlike last year, however, the time period for the fundraising will be extended from 24 to 30 hours.
The donations made also can qualify the nonprofit for additional monetary prizes from participating sponsors, according to a news release issued by the partnership Wednesday.
The 2013 event had more than 160 nonprofits to choose from, and the partnership "expects to have the same number and very likely more," in 2014, said Erin Ruhl, director of community relations.
Ruhl added that while the partnership doesn't set a specific dollar amount as a goal, it believes that 2014 will be even more successful than last year's inaugural event, when more than $800,000 was raised in 24 hours.
Other plans for the event are in the works, Ruhl said, with the partnership working with three local chambers of commerce - Williamsport/Lycoming, Susquehanna Valley and Central Pennsylvania - on a kick-off event for March 12.
Registration for non-profits wishing to participate is required by Feb. 21. Interested non-profits can visit www.raisetheregion.com/application.
