A Montoursville man faces charges for allegedly stealing beer from Wegmans, 201 William St., on Dec. 5, 2011, according to city police.
Christopher J. Eck, 31, of 2669 Route 864, Montoursville, allegedly stole $32 worth of beer from Wegmans with the help of a "lookout" person who watched "for any other patrons or employees coming near," during the alleged theft, police said in an affidavit.
When a city police officer was shown surveillance footage that captured the incident, he allegedly identified Eck, an affidavit said.
Following his recent arraignment before District Judge Allen P. Page III on a shoplifting charge, Eck was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.
In an unrelated incident, Sherry E. Lee, 42, of 3630 Pine St., Cogan Station, allegedly stole a cellphone from Dollar General, 2062 Lycoming Creek Road, Old Lycoming Township, on Dec. 19, Old Lycoming Township Police said.
The phone, valued at $79, was recovered when police made contact with Lee at her residence where she admitted to stealing the phone, an affidavit said.
Lee was arraigned before District Judge James H. Sortman on a charge of shoplifting. She was released on $15,000 bail.
Lee has three prior convictions related to shoplifting, police said.
In another case, Viktoria Brodhag, 19, of 229 College Ave, faces shoplifting and drug possession charges for allegedly attempting to steal several items of clothing from Kohls, 251 William St., on Nov. 2, city police said.
Brodhag was apprehended by a Kohls employee during the alleged offense and taken into the security office where Brodhag was asked to dump all of her belongings on the ground to make sure she had no more stolen merchandise in her possession. As she did so, the employee noticed "a red plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance" fall out of a cigarette pack Brodhag had in her hand, an affidavit said.
All of the merchandise, totaling $42, was recovered, police said.
Brodhag was sent a summons to appear before District Judge Allen P. Page III to faces charges of shoplifting, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She waived her preliminary hearing.
Shuaib A. Ali, 29, of 205 Eldred St., is accused of allegedly fleeing the scene of a vehicle crash he was involved in on Oct. 28, city police said.
Ali was driving a white Ford Expedition when the accident occurred at West Edwin and Pine streets, police said.
Police tracked Ali to High Street when they noticed a Ford Expedition parked at the back of a home had front-end bumper damage and a "burgundy paint transfer similar in color" to the victim's vehicle, an affidavit said.
Ali was sent a summons to appear before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges related to hit-and-run and driving without a license. He waived his preliminary hearing.
