A man with an extensive juvenile record faces charges for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in a hotel room at the Kaba Hotel, 234 Route 15, South Williamsport, on Jan. 22, the morning after the two had spent the night there, police said.
Zachary T. Harlan, 22, of 528 North Washington St., Montoursville, allegedly pushed his girlfriend into a chair when she would not give him a cellphone charger. She suffered injuries to her leg as a result of the push. When she tried to get up to leave, Harlan allegedly then threw her onto the hotel bed and forcibly took her purse from her, causing damage to it, an affidavit said.
When the victim tried to leave again, Harlan allegedly threw her onto the bed once more and covered her mouth to prevent her screaming. He then allegedly sat in front of the hotel room door and told her she could leave only after he "smoked a joint," South Williamsport police said.
The victim eventually made it down to the hotel lobby, but went back into the room to look for her keys. There, Harlan allegedly threw her onto the bed a third time and choked her, according to police.
Harlan was arraigned recently before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman on charges of theft, robbery with threat of serious bodily injury, simple assault and false imprisonment. He was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
