Valentine's Day has never been the most popular holiday for the single people of the world. Being surrounded by couples in love doing romantic things and seeing people get engaged and married on social media, may make you think that something is wrong with you because you are single and alone. However, being single is something that should be celebrated.
The typical stereotype for the single people out there is that they live one of two opposing lifestyles. The first stereotype is that single men and women live sad pathetic lives where they are depressed all the time and possibly have lots of cats. They believe that single people stay home all the time in their pajamas and watch romantic movies wishing that they were living the life they are watching on the TV.
The other stereotype is that single people are out hunting down men and women for their next victim ... I mean relationship. The stereotype is that single people only go out to look for someone to hook up with. This makes people assume that single people can't stand to be alone and need to have someone around them to feel special.
One thing people never think of when they see single people, is that they are happy being single. Believe it or not, it is OK to be happy when you are single. Single people have the time to learn about themselves, that isn't necessarily there when you are in a relationship. They have the time to try new things and meet new people.
The single life allows men and women time to be selfish. The only person that they have to think about is themselves. They are able to cook whatever they want and not make an extra serving for their partner, and they can cook whatever their taste buds call for. On a whim single people can go on a random weekend trip somewhere with their friends and not have to plan it out with their partner.
Single people also get the joy of having a big bed all to themselves, with a silent night because no one is snoring next to them. These are just some of the great things about the single life.
By taking some selfish time and living the single life, people are making themselves happier so that when the right man or woman comes along they are happy with themselves first. It is important to make sure you know who you are before entering a new relationship. If someone bounces from one relationship to the next, they can possibly forget they are their own person and lose their identity based off of the relationship they are in. Taking time to be selfish is not a bad thing.
Don't get me wrong, love is a beautiful thing and something almost everyone wants.
However, if you are single, it is not a bad thing. Love finds you when you least expect it, so instead of giving into the typical stereotype go out and make yourself happy. That way when you do meet the right person, they are meeting one of the happiest people they have ever met.
