On Jan. 30 Susquehanna Health was presented with the designation "Employer of Choice."
The coveted recognition was presented to Susquehanna Health because of its dedication to the highest level of employee relationships - a level that goes above and beyond normal practices of human resources.
Susquehanna Health is one of three hospital systems nationwide to receive this designation so far this year.
Susquehanna Health representatives received the Employer of Choice award from Joyce Gioia, president of Employer of Choice International, center. Representatives included, from left, Dayne Foresman, Michelle Gaida, Christina Shenk, Katherine Frey, Katelyn Fowler, Lois Ulmer, Amy Swarthout and Dr. Alexander Nesbitt. (Story on D-3)
"Employers of Choice are able to attract, optimize and retain top talent in order to enjoy a substantial advantage over their competitors," said Joyce Gioia, president of Employer of Choice International Inc. "Their culture is centered not only on patient care, but also on employee partnership. SH employees are referred to as service partners, highlighting the principle that every member of the organization, from floor staff to administration, plays a role in the overall success of the organization."
In the ceremony held at Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Gioia also commended Susquehanna Health's onboarding process for new service partners and managers.
Managers must complete a unique 36-hour training designed to develop effective management and partnership skills.
Gioia mentioned the involvement of senior leaders such as Steve Johnson, president and CEO of Susquehanna Health, who actively participates in every new service partner onboarding.
These examples, along with many other elements, "contribute to making SH a special organization worthy of recognition," noted Gioia.
"Our service partners are the most valuable asset," said Christine Ballard, vice president of human resources at Susquehanna Health. "Every day we are out making a difference in the lives of our patients and each other. It takes teamwork to provide the best quality care possible, and at Susquehanna Health we strive to build the best health system and team for our patients."
