Fred E. Spong, 70, of Williamsport, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born June 12, 1943, in Williamsport, he was a son of Fred H. Spong and Betty (Sauers) Fillman. He was raised by his step-father, John Fillman and mother, Betty.
He had worked as an auto mechanic. Fred had served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed NASCAR, coin collecting, metal detecting, country music, meeting with his friends at the coffee shop and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Surviving are two children, Kristine L. Spong (Thomas J. Ferris), of South Williamsport, Keith E. Spong, of Williamsport; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Kelli Spong; three great-grandchildren; and a sister.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m.
