Ruth C. Miller

February 28, 2014
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Ruth C. Miller died on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, as she had lived, surrounded by friends and family. You know Mrs. Miller, she is the person who taught you how to read. She is the person who instilled in you the love of reading. Ruth taught in the Keystone Central School District and then was hired as a reading specialist with the Jersey Shore School District. She taught at Salladasburg Elementary School until she retired in 1995. Ruth shared her love of books with the students by starting a Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program at the school. Each year she and her committee planned reading events and brought in books for the students to choose for their own. She believed that books show us how the world and communities and people are connected. Ruth believed that reading was important for more than just getting a job (well, she wanted you to do that too.)
