The Salvation Army is participating in the Feinstein Foundation challenge through the end of April.
This is the 17th year that Alan Feinstein will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies nationwide to help them raise funds.
For every food item that is collected now through April 30, the Salvation Army will count $1 per item or pound as well as every check, cash contribution or pledge.
Contributors will help in two ways - by the food or money donated and as a match for what Feinstein will add to it.
"Whatever you donate to this agency, I will add money to it. The more you give, the more of my $1 million they will get - thanks to you," said Feinstein.
Donations can be made as an individual or by running a food drive as a group, business, organization, school or church and it will be counted towards the Feinstein Challenge.
Food donations are accepted at The Salvation Army, 457 Market St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
