So President Obama wanted to put monitors in the newsrooms. Luckily, our 1st Amendment Rights were save by diligent Rep. watch dogs. (paraphrase from Fox News and Glenn Beck)
So did these watchdogs really save us from overbearing Big Brother? A little boring history.
By law the FCC is required to be concerned by whether or not community needs are met by broadcasters. Strange but true, the communication act of 1932. Further it states the FCC will send congress a "section 257 report" every 3 years as to wether these needs are met.
No one really pays these reports much attention anymore, until a few weeks ago when the American Center for Law and Justice got ahold of it. Their claim, the white house plans "to put monitors in every major news room in the country".
I really don't care too much about this whole story. But what I do care about passionately is the trend in this country where national news organizations are not interested in the news at all.
It's become either entertainment or political.
The saddest part is, it seems these half truths or plain lies are what many in this country want. Look how fast this story got around, and how many people believed it, and, worse, wanted to believe it.
We need to demand more from our news sources, but first, we need to demand more from ourselves.
