WATSONTOWN - The Tiadaghton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) attended the Bucknell University Bison Battalion Army ROTC annual Awards Banquet on April 12 at the Watsontown Revival Tabernacle Church.
Chapter President Tom Gouldy awarded the SAR Silver ROTC Medal and Certificate to Cadet Thomas A. Straniere, of Wellsboro.
A freshman who is majoring in mechanical engineering, Straniere will enter the Army as a second lieutenant in the infantry, upon his college graduation.

The SAR awards the ROTC Medal to foster the principle of the "citizen-soldier" exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War days.
The award is presented to ROTC cadets who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence.
Straniere was selected for the award by Lt. Col. John R. Kaires, professor of military science at Bucknell and commander of the Bison Battalion, which includes cadets from Bucknell, Bloomsburg and Susquehanna universities, Pennsylvania College of Technology and Lycoming College.
The SAR is a leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the war for independence.
