Lewis R. LaForme, 97, a resident of Allenwood, quietly passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his residence.
Born in Montgomery, Lycoming County, on Wednesday, June 28, 1916. He was the son of the late Franklin R. and Sarah (Barto) LaForme.
He was the husband of Grace C. "Betty" (Corson) LaForme, with whom he celebrated a 72 wedding anniversary on June 14, 2013.
Lew honorably served during the Second World War with the U.S. Army.
He was employed as a maintenance foreman by Prismo Industries at Montgomery retiring in 1981. Lew was one of the last employees of the Ordnance Works at Allenwood.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, where he was a member of the Eager Beaver Sunday School Class. Lew was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 299 at Muncy, and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Williamsport.
He enjoyed fishing. He and his wife spent their winters in Arcadia, Fla. Lew enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting activities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Glenn and wife Lois LaForme, Clarion, Pa.; Nancy and husband Sidney Jarrett, Montgomery; Sandra Tofts, Troy; eight grandchildren, Judy Bloom, Jacquelyn Wisniewski, Julie Griner, Chris Page, Eugene Jarrett, LouAnn Taylor, Cindy Newcomer and Courtney LaForme.
Lew is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Matt Lewis LaForme and by ten siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, with Virginia Bailey, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Lew's memory be made to the Salvation Army, 457 Market Street, Williamsport, PA 17701. Arrangements are being handled by the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 40 E. Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA.
